Accelon is a premier African communications services company offering a range of satellite based broadband internet access, data and voice communication services customised for small to large enterprises, government and public sector agencies across West Africa.

Accelon offers its services in partnership with SES Global, the world leader in satellite communications, and was conceived in 2002 by Africa Venture Partners (AVP), a South African based investment and strategic management firm. Other investors in the company include SES ASTRA, an SES Global company, and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) of South Africa.

In 2003, Accelon achieved the distinction of the largest IT and Telecommunication sector start-up in Africa and also ranked among the largest start-ups in the sector globally in 2003. Accelon has over 1000 customer sites connected through the Accelon network over the past two and a half years, making it the fastest growing ICT startup in Africa (COMSYS UK Report 2004).

Accelon currently offers services across West Africa with operations in Nigeria and Ghana and a small corporate office in South Africa. Accelon is currently active in 7 countries and aims to extend its services to cover up to 10 selected countries in Africa by 2007.

Accelon delivers directly to users on the African Continent two-way "always-on" Internet access and enterprise wide data connectivity for distributed branches and business locations using very small aperture terminals (VSATs) on a satellite network.

Accelon's services are designed and provisioned to ensure quality, reliability and affordability for the benefit of the customer. The services include:

Accelon firmly believes in Africa's growth potential, and in our ability to contribute towards an inspired and prolific change throughout the continent's telecommunications industry. Accelon will continuously harness global resources and intellectual capital to deploy the technology platforms, support and distribution infrastructure that will generate relevant and inspiring levels of service for our customers.

Most importantly, we strive to attract and retain the best people and business partners. We believe that it is the quality and commitment of our people and our partners that will enable us to deliver on our promise and to grow our business.

Accelon's deployment of in-country hubs (Ku-band and C-band) and Network Operations Centre ensures that the relevant capacity and technical skills are within reach and in the same time zones as our customer base. This guarantees speedy response to customer calls and both online and field support services are locally available in West Africa (Nigeria and Ghana).

Accelon has deployed and is currently using a high power Ku-Band space segment on the steerable beam of ASTRA 2B at 28.2° East (featuring up to 16 transponders) with optimal coverage over West Africa, as shown in diagram below.

Accelon has also deployed a C-band service that currently runs off the ASTRA 4A (AMC-12) satellite. ASTRA 4A is the world's most powerful C-band satellite with Europe/Africa coverage. Positioned at 37.5° west, ASTRA 4A boasts better landmass coverage and high power. Its high power (43dBW at the center) allows the use of smaller terminals and larger data rates, making it ideally suited to data and broadcast applications.

Accelon has a dedicated team of network engineers, field service and installation support resources both internal and from a distributed dealer network offering coverage and support in all the main regions of Nigeria including Lagos area, Port Harcourt and Abuja. We have in-country and within easy reach of customers, sufficient stock of customer premises equipment (VSATs) to ensure that the turnaround time from customer order and delivery is a matter of days. Also stocks of spare holdings are kept in West Africa to ensure that turnaround time for customer support services is maintained to a minimum.

Accelon has made substantial investment in systems, processes and resources to ensure the availability of a 24-hour-a-day customer service and support. A dedicated team of customer service representatives man the 24 x 7 contact centre backed by a team of skilled network engineering resources on stand-by to conduct remote network troubleshooting and configuration.
