Working closely with the Space Science & Technology
Department of the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, cameras will be designed and
built to meet customer requirements from around the world. The initial products
cover a range of resolutions from 1 metre to 10 metre.
The company is a
spin-out from CLIK Central Laboratory Innovation and Knowledge Transfer Limited
the wholly-owned technology exploitation company of the Council for the Central
Laboratories of the Research Councils (CCLRC), based at the Rutherford Appleton
Laboratory (RAL).
The intellectual property base of Orbital Optics
Limited (OOL) is from the Space Science and Technology Department of RAL. The
experience of over 45 years of designing and building space instruments is
readily accessible by OOL and in recent years the Space Department has built
over 5 imagers for space missions and has had a significant involvement in over
150 space missions.
Orbital Optics Limited will have access to the range
of facilities based at RAL within SSTD. These include: Clean Rooms and Optical
Laboratories, Thermal Vacuum Chambers, Vibration Test Facility, and the ability
for the high precision alignment of Optics.
