Paradigm Secure Communications
(Paradigm) has been created specifically to service military, defence and
government organisations with specialised military satellite communications.
Paradigm is 100% owned by the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company
(EADS).
In October 2003, Paradigm signed the Skynet 5 Private Finance
Initiative (PFI) contract with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) making it the
worlds first commercial provider of military satellite services. Paradigm has
since taken over operation, maintenance and ownership of the existing Skynet 4
system, which currently provides military satellite communications for the UK
MOD and is supplying specialist services to other nations and
NATO.
Paradigm is responsible for improving the system by upgrading the
ground segment and launching a minimum of two new satellites. The existing five
Skynet 4 satellites have excess X-band capacity, which can be used to provide
an interim capability for other nations on a fully commercial basis. Additional
capability has been designed into the Skynet 5 solution and will be available
on a long-term basis at the in-service date for the full Skynet 5 system. The
first Skynet 5 satellite is scheduled to be launched in quarter three 2006 and
will enter service by 1st March 2007. Two further satellites have been ordered
and will be launched in 2007 and 2008.
Paradigm has a dedicated Customer
Contact Centre providing order handling, communications planning and problem
resolution functions.
