Telespazio, a member of the Space Alliance
between Finmeccanica and Thales , is a world leader in satellite services: from
management of satellites to Earth observation services, from satellite
navigation to broadband multimedia telecommunications.
Telespazio plays
a leading role in the reference markets harnessing technological experience
acquired over the years and through its participation in major European space
programmes such as: Galileo, EGNOS, GMES and COSMO-SkyMed. Telespazio business
areas are:
Satellite operations - Telespazio offers integrated
solutions covering the space mission value chain: definition, development and
integration of the ground segment with control stations and centres, as well as
launch assistance and satellite orbit positioning (Launch and Early Orbit Phase
- LEOP). Telespazio provides telemetry services, TT&C (Tracking, Telemetry
and Command), operations and ground segment management.
Defence - Telespazio
is the primary satellite service provider for the Italian Ministry of Defense.
As a result, the Company supports Italian Armed Forces both in the national and
international operational scenarios providing commercial services and
applications. The strategic role of Telespazio in milsatcom is clearly pointed
out by its involvement in the Sicral Program. Due to the Private Public
Partnership signed in July 2007 with Italian MoD, Telespazio is going to become
one of the most important commercial provider of military satellite capacity in
both UHF and SHF frequency bands.
Networks and Connectivity -
Telespazio wide, long-standing presence in the satcom services value chain
produced an extensive up-to-date product portfolio, spread into three major
product lines, created to develop and optimize the internal resources and
know-how:
Fixed Platforms: Telespazio designs, develops and manages global
coverage telecommunication networks, in particular provides with a wide range
of Broadband Ip network solutions and value added services through FullSat
bidirectional IPoS standard platforms and provides turn key solutions for
corporate and Institutional Customers with Skyplex Platform. Furthermore,
Telespazio develops and manages systems for the broadcast distribution and
transport of Television signals for national and international
broadcasters.
Mobile Platforms: providing innovative and effective solutions
for the entire civil transportation sector: on land road, rail, sea and air;
also in the full mobile context. Specialised mobile applications have been
engineered for emergency, redundancy and other "on demand" needs, i.e. SNG, GSM
backhauling.
Telecommunication Infrastructure: Telespazio is a leader
provider of reliable and secure Teleport Services, leveraging on a worldwide
Space Center network, operated 24h/d -7d/w and reliably connected to fiber
networks and the IP backbone. Telespazio either "houses" Customer Purchased
Equipment or "host" services, when uplink/downlink over existing antennas are
offered. In-house qualified engineering teams provide Engineering &
Operation (Support) Services, also at Customers locations, to design,
implement, integrate, operate and maintain complex or innovative satcom
solutions.
Earth Observation - Telespazio carries out all Earth
Observation commercial activities: from acquiring and processing satellite
data, to the development and sale of software and products. Telespazio's
services are mainly directed towards agencies and companies performing land use
control studies, civil protection, disaster management, cartography,
agricultural applications and geomarketing. In particular, Telespazio is
participating as main player for the development of the ground segment of the
ASI COSMO-SkyMed programme, based on a constellation of four satellites
operating in any atmospheric condition. Furthermore, the company takes part of
the ESA programme GMES, that will provide monitoring services for surveillance
and homeland security.
Navigation and Infomobility - Telespazio
is Finmeccanica's key operator in navigation and localisation services, a role
confirmed by its contribution to the development of Galileo, the European
satellite navigation programme. One of the two control centres that will manage
the Galileo constellation and mission will be based at the Telespazio Fucino
Space Centre. Telespazio will also be responsible for setting up one of the two
signal performance validation centres near Rome. Telespazio will play a leading
role in the construction and management of the Galileo Test Range (Gtr), the
multifunctional technological infrastructure for satellite navigation that will
support the development of the system, applications, navigation and positioning
equipment.
